Abstract

Most of the residents of Bumi Jaya Village work as rice farmers, and rice farming is one of the significant pillars of the local economy. However, in recent years, farmers have experienced quite severe challenges due to the onslaught of plant diseases such as blast, tungro, and leaf blight. These diseases disrupt rice plants, causing a reduction in harvest yields. Blast disease caused by the fungus Pyricularia oryzae, tungro disease caused by a virus transmitted by planthoppers, and leaf blight caused by the bacteria Xanthomonas oryzae greatly affect the quality and quantity of rice production. Farmers often have difficulty in identifying the type of disease that attacks rice plants, so the use of inappropriate pesticides can worsen the condition of the plants. Limited access to data also worsens the condition. To overcome this, an appropriate method is needed to diagnose rice plant diseases quickly and accurately. One approach used is the Dempster Shafer method which is able to digest uncertain information and provide more accurate assessment conclusions. This research creates a rice plant disease assessment system based on the Dempster-Shafer method that is able to diagnose 3 main types of diseases, namely blast, leaf blight, and tungro with a high level of accuracy. This system combines various facts from expert interviews and field indication datasets. With this method, it is expected to help farmers in determining the right action steps and increase farmers' knowledge in identifying and overcoming plant diseases, so that they can reduce losses due to plant diseases and increase future harvests.
