Abstract

The ability of mathematical literacy in class XI students who are still lacking needs to be further investigated based on students' self-esteem. In fact, mathematical literacy helps a person understand the use of mathematics in everyday life and use it to make the right decisions as a constructive, caring and thinking citizen. The purpose of this research is to describe the ability of mathematical literacy in solving mathematical problems in students with high, medium and low self-esteem. The type of research used is descriptive with a qualitative approach. The population of this study were students of class XI SMPIT Permata Bunda Islamic Boarding School Bandar Lampung by using the technique purposive sampling. Data collection techniques used questionnaires, test questions, and interviews to test the validity of the data, namely technical triangulation. Based on the research analysis of mathematical literacy skills, the results show that students with high self-esteem and are fulfilling mathematical literacy abilities (a) formulate, (b) apply, and (c) interpret. Meanwhile, students with low self-esteem fulfill mathematical literacy abilities (a) formulate.
